About Agile View World Residential Exhibition Area
Agile View World is a residential exhibition area located at the foot of Gaoligong Mountain in Tengchong, Yunnan, China. The site covers 16,860.7 square meters and is surrounded by water on three sides and by mountains. The existing forest belts are healthy and are used as landscape resources. The design applies local materials, plants and techniques to support a simple and quiet lifestyle. A low intervention strategy and a resilient approach protect the original site. The result expresses respect for the surrounding mountains and plains.
Hu Sun's Agile View World Residential Exhibition Area emerges as a distinguished contribution to contemporary landscape and architectural practice, embodying principles of organic integration that have animated progressive design discourse from the flowing forms of mid-century expressionism through contemporary parametric explorations. The work demonstrates remarkable sensitivity to topographic context, positioning its sweeping biomorphic pavilion as a mediating gesture between the engineered precision of human habitation and the meandering natural systems of the surrounding river valley. The roof's distinctive elliptical form, articulated through meticulously detailed standing-seam metal cladding, suggests affinities with both vernacular agricultural structures and avant-garde sculptural pavilions, achieving a synthesis that feels simultaneously rooted and aspirational. The luminous amber oculus penetrating the roof's apex introduces a chromatic and symbolic focal point, perhaps evoking traditional architectural devices for celestial connection while functioning pragmatically to admit natural illumination to interior volumes below. The composition's crescent-shaped reflecting pool extends the architectural gesture into landscape, creating liminal thresholds between built and natural realms where sky, structure, and earth converge in shimmering reflection. Serpentine circulation paths in pristine white concrete choreograph visitor movement through the site, their flowing geometries echoing the river's own meandering course visible beyond. The designer appears to engage themes of dwelling, arrival, and contemplative pause, positioning this exhibition space as a gateway experience that prepares visitors for residential environments through immersion in carefully orchestrated natural beauty. Distant mountain silhouettes provide sublime backdrop, their geological permanence counterpointing the pavilion's contemporary intervention. The work invites consideration of how architecture might serve not merely functional shelter but experiential transformation, offering visitors passage from ordinary consciousness into heightened awareness of environmental splendor.

- The design uses local materials, plants and techniques to build a pure and simple lifestyle, and emphasize the deep respect for the mountains and plains where the site is located with quiet and restrained language, and with low intervention.
- Design Challenge
- We faced up with two challenges: one was how to match the living experience of the exhibition area with the mountain essence that of the site; the other was how to deal with the relationship between the site and nature under the circumstances that the unique architectural style outlined the site.
- Project Duration
- The project started in April 2019 and completed in October 2020 in Tengchong, Yunan, China.
- Operation Flow
- Based on the reverse thinking on the practice of "new landscape", the project used low intervention strategy and resilient design so as not to destroy the original site.
- Research
- The site is located at the foot of Gaoligong Mountain with advantageous landscape resources. The client intended to live in a place that was extremely beautiful and where everything seemed perfect, far away from modern life. Therefore, we reconsidered the relations among human, place and nature when we faced with such a rare gift, and used low intervention strategy to protect the original site.
- Inspiration
- The client intended to create a shelter in the picturesque and beautiful environment that was closely related to nature. As designers, we hoped to reconsider the relations among human, place and nature when we faced up with such a rare gift while satisfying the client's intention, and recovered the mountain essence in this process.
