About Art One Residential Exhibition Area
Art One is a landscape design for a residential exhibition area in Shenzhen. The terrain is varied along the axis of the site, and surrounding natural resources are introduced. A group of trees is planted in the core area to form a microclimate and to make the original forest the highlight of the site. An art gallery connects the spaces and includes hollow-carved elements and color blocks. Four functional boxes are placed within the green environment to create experience spaces. The landscape design area covers 6700 square meters.
Art One Residential Exhibition Area by Hu Sun represents a distinguished achievement within the contemporary landscape architecture tradition, demonstrating the designer's sophisticated understanding of how spatial composition, material selection, and chromatic strategy can collaborate to create environments of profound experiential resonance, the work emerges from a design philosophy that honors both Eastern garden heritage with its emphasis on contemplative journey and symbolic water elements while embracing Western minimalist sculptural traditions that celebrate pure geometric form and industrial material refinement, the central serpentine bench functions simultaneously as circulation infrastructure, sculptural focal point, and symbolic element suggesting the eternal flow of water or the dynamic equilibrium of yin and yang principles, its white concrete materiality establishing luminous presence against the dark ground plane while its organic curvature provides essential visual relief within an otherwise orthogonal architectural context, the vermillion glass pavilion introduces a bold chromatic intervention that references traditional celebratory and auspicious color associations while employing thoroughly contemporary transparent construction methods, this red cube achieves the remarkable effect of simultaneously asserting presence and revealing interior depth, its reflective surfaces capturing and transforming surrounding landscape elements into abstract painterly compositions, the topographical treatment of the lawn areas demonstrates sensitive understanding of how subtle grade changes can transform flat terrain into dynamic sculptural ground plane, the gentle berms and valleys creating intimate scaled spaces within the larger exhibition precinct, mature trees have been positioned with evident care for both immediate spatial effect and long-term growth patterns, their organic forms providing essential visual softening and seasonal transformation markers, viewers are invited to consider how this work addresses the contemporary challenge of creating meaningful outdoor spaces within dense urban contexts where landscape must negotiate between intimate human experience and monumental architectural surroundings

- Design Challenge
- Art and fashion are absolutely keywords for the lifestyles of the young. However, how to intervene in was the difficulty that we faced up with.
Occasionally, two fashion shows that originated from nature gave us a burst of inspiration. We have seen the fusion of fashion and nature without boundaries. Not only models, but also the most primitive forces of nature are coming. What it conveys is the symbiotic relationship between the original natural style and fashion art. Perhaps the most unique fashion is the connection with nature. As a result, we have found a way to solve the problem. - Project Duration
- The project started in Oct. 2020 and completed in April 2021 in Shenzhen.
- Operation Flow
- Two strategies and four scenes are applied in the design to better highlight the theme.
Strategy 1 : The integration of nature and fashion.
Strategy 2: Immersive art experience.
Scene 1 : Pure boundary.
Scene 2 : Flowing forest island
Scene 3 : Unbounded community pool.
Scene 4 : Infiltration art.
Each scene provides exclusive experience for people walking here. - Research
- With our preliminary research and consumer analysis, we found that the project was better for young people. Moreover, we made a thorough research on consumers’ deeper needs and their thirst for the living environment. The result tells us to create a product for the young.
- Inspiration
- The design originated from the exploration of young lifestyles. Two fashion shows in nature, Jacquemus S/S 2021 and Jason Wu S/S 2021, gave us the inspiration. What they convey is the symbiotic relationship between the original natural style and fashion art. Perhaps the most unique fashion is the connection with nature. That’s what we aim to pursue.
