About Zhishan 1299 Organic Green Tea Packaging

Zhishan 1299 is a gift box designed for organic green tea grown in high altitude tea gardens. The shape of a single bud leaf is cut as a hollow form on the box surface, turning the product form into a memory symbol. When the box is opened, the structure unfolds and stretches upward into a mountain shape, recalling the Chinese character for mountain and the tea garden at an altitude of 1299 meters. Gold stamping and UV coating are applied to the surface. Thirty small nitrogen filled packages inside keep the tea fresh and visible.

Qianqian Ma's packaging design for organic tea ceremonies engages contemporary discourse surrounding sustainable luxury and the material poetics of ecological responsibility, situating premium consumer goods within frameworks that honor agricultural origins while meeting elevated aesthetic expectations characteristic of discerning markets. The compositional achievement demonstrates sophisticated understanding of spatial organization principles, deploying geometric precision through the modular canister array that creates visual rhythm while accommodating practical storage functions, each cylindrical vessel positioned with exactitude to generate ordered beauty from repetition, the grid structure recalls both traditional apothecary presentations and contemporary modular design systems, bridging heritage display conventions with present-day organizational aesthetics. The chromatic sophistication emerges through restrained earth-tone palette selection, warm umber and bronze oxide hues establishing material presence that references both agricultural soil and precious oxidized metals, this dual material association creates semantic richness positioning the tea simultaneously as earth-born crop and refined commodity worthy of precious metal presentation, the punctuation provided by chartreuse and viridian leaf motifs introduces essential biophilic visual connection, translating the living green of tea cultivation into graphic shorthand while providing complementary chromatic contrast that activates the composition and directs viewer attention across the canister field. The technical facility evident in surface treatment suggests careful material specification and finishing processes, the mottled patination effect requiring either specialized substrate selection or secondary surface application, conferring handcrafted authenticity associations even within industrial production contexts, this tension between artisanal aesthetic and manufacturing precision characterizes successful contemporary packaging that must satisfy both craft appreciation and scalability requirements. The central calligraphic panel establishes cultural coordinates, vertical text orientation and character rendering style suggesting traditional manuscript conventions while the celadon green ink color references historic ceramic glazes, these deliberate historical echoes position the product within lineages of tea culture extending across centuries, inviting contemplation of continuity between past cultivation wisdom and present organic farming practices, the typographic treatment balances legibility with artistic expression, maintaining functional communication while contributing to overall aesthetic refinement. Thematically, this packaging explores the ceremonial dimensions of daily consumption, elevating routine beverage preparation into mindful ritual through visual language that demands slower observation and suggests careful handling, the presentation invites questions about how material choices communicate values, how geometric order can evoke natural systems, and whether packaging might serve contemplative as well as protective functions.

Design Challenge
This is a high-end gift box that takes into account consumers' daily tea drinking habits while ensuring the freshness of the tea leaves. We have set up 30 independent small packages inside the packaging, each filled with nitrogen gas. This not only allows for good display, but also ensures the freshness of the tea leaves and showcases the natural environment for tea growth.
Project Duration
The project lasts 2 months
Operation Flow
This packaging features the shape of tea leaves as its core element. When the gift box is opened, it forms a mountain shape, which can be stretched upwards to create a mountain shape. This allows consumers to feel that the tea growing environment is very ecological and natural, while also showcasing the small cans of tea inside.
Research
We conducted on-site inspections of the environment in which tea grows, and the tall mountains, fresh air, and suitable climate provide natural protection for tea. In the packaging design, the unfolding and stretching of the box are provided to present the form of a mountain, artistically restoring the style of a high-altitude tea garden. Once the packaging was launched, it was deeply loved and purchased by consumers.
Inspiration
The design inspiration comes from a single bud shape during picking, only picking new teeth that have just been revealed before Qingming Festival. The shape of a single bud leaf is expressed in a hollow form on the packaging box surface. When the packaging gift box is opened, it presents the natural environment of high mountains where tea grows. Tea buds extend from halfway up the mountain to the top, like layers of screening for tea quality.
