About Fck 2020 Calendar
Fck 2020 is a table calendar for the year 2021. The calendar is produced as a leporello, a long sheet folded into twelve panels. It can be kept flat and browsed like a book, or placed on a desk in the shape of a circle or other forms. Each month carries a short wish for the new year, told through polychrome modernist graphics and minimal illustrations. The intent is to turn the page on a difficult year with humour and imagination. Printing is digital on 240 gram white paper. The folded size is 169 by 240 millimetres.
Within the tradition of calendar design as both functional timepiece and decorative object, Francesco Fallisi's Fck 2020 Calendar emerges as a particularly inventive contribution that transforms the conventional wall calendar into a three-dimensional sculptural celebration. The work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how physical form can amplify conceptual content, the accordion structure allowing the complete year to bloom simultaneously rather than revealing months sequentially. Each panel functions as an individual composition while contributing to a unified chromatic symphony, the designer's palette selections moving through warm and cool passages with deliberate consideration for how adjacent hues will interact when the calendar assumes its expanded configuration. The typographic treatment balances bold declarative messaging with functional calendar grids, the hierarchy established through scale relationships and positional logic that guides the eye between expressive content and practical date reference. Particularly noteworthy is the integration of simple illustrative elements—geometric stars, linear coat hangers, curved forms—that provide visual interest without overwhelming the essential calendar function. The production values evident in precise die-cutting, registration accuracy, and paper selection suggest careful attention to material craft alongside graphic invention. Thematically, the work embraces an optimistic forward-looking stance, each month's aspirational message proposing activities and experiences to anticipate, transforming the calendar from mere temporal marker into a manifesto of hopeful intention. The viewer might consider how objects of everyday utility become carriers of emotional meaning, and how the physical presence of such an artifact on one's desk or shelf serves as persistent reminder that time moves forward bearing possibility.

Print Technology: HP Indigo - Design Challenge
- We chose digital printing to keep costs down. However, to achieve the same quality as other techniques, with solid blacks, uniform color fields and durability, we had to try various papers before finding the one that met our needs. The large dimensions of the unfolded calendar and the numerous creasing forced us to divide the structure into three parts, then assembled by hand piece by piece, obviously taking into account the direction of the fiber and limiting the waste of paper to a minimum.
- Project Duration
- The creative process started in October 2020 in Milan, Italy. The calendar has been printed in late November 2020 and sent to the customers starting from December 2020

- Research
- We looked for an eye catching combination of graphic, visual e structural elements capable to reach a highly heterogeneous audience. We chose a prestigious but sustainable paper and a printing solution in order to minimize the impact on the environment, keep quality hight and costs down. We created a Leporello structure because we wanted it to be a three-dimensional object, capable of assuming many forms. We had a quick customer response and a great media coverage collecting articles on newspapers and design blogs.
- Inspiration
- 2020 has been a painful year for the whole planet. The world of communication and marketing itself has suffered terribly. Brands have lost faith in the future, suspended in a paralyzed market. What wish could we address them in sight of the new year? To turn the page with a smile, thanks to the power of imagination, words and a good amount of irony. One month after another, twelve small and big wishes are told by a polychrome and modernist graphic design and by minimal illustrations.
