About Ash2o Mineral Water Packaging
Ash2o is a packaging design for premium mineral water. The bottle holds water from Heavenly Lake in the Tianshan Mountains of Xinjiang, China. The silhouette follows the profile of the mountain range, and faceted geometric surfaces recall the form of the peaks. The body is made of glass and the cap is made of frosted plastic. The triangular shape gives a distinct grip when the bottle is opened, held and used. A multi-slide mold system was developed to shape the complex angled surfaces. The bottle can be reused after the water is consumed.
Cheng Tian Sheng's Ash2o Mineral Water Packaging emerges from a contemporary design tradition that seeks to collapse the distinction between utilitarian container and sculptural form, positioning functional packaging within a broader cultural conversation about environmental storytelling, material transparency, and the translation of geological origin into three-dimensional narrative. The work demonstrates sophisticated engagement with packaging as spatial experience rather than merely protective enclosure, employing the mountain silhouette as both formal vocabulary and iconographic anchor that directly references the mineral water's source while creating immediate visual recognition and shelf presence through distinctive geometric profile. The technical achievement evident in the transparent vessel rewards careful examination, particularly in the integration of polychromatic relief graphics that transform the container's interior base into a miniature landscape diorama, the flowing topographical patterns rendered in cool blue-green hues suggesting both mountain ridges receding through atmospheric perspective and water currents flowing from alpine source, this double reading enriching the symbolic content while demonstrating considerable skill in multi-layer molding or insert decoration techniques that maintain optical clarity in the upper vessel walls while embedding detailed graphic information in the base plane. The material dialogue between the transparent foreground vessel and the matte white background form creates a sophisticated formal conversation about revelation and concealment, the transparent version performing as display object inviting visual exploration of its internal landscape while the opaque version maintains brand information through subtle relief typography that catches light through shadow and surface variation rather than chromatic contrast, both approaches demonstrating restraint and confidence in formal reduction. The pyramidal geometry itself carries considerable design intelligence, the faceted planes creating structural stability while evoking the crystalline forms of mineral deposits and ice formations, the hard edges generating prismatic light effects that reinforce associations with purity and clarity, the overall silhouette achieving memorable distinctiveness that elevates the work beyond conventional cylindrical bottle formats toward sculptural presence. The chromatic restraint limiting the palette primarily to cool blues and whites against neutral grounds reinforces brand associations with alpine freshness, glacial purity, and mineral clarity while avoiding the chromatic saturation common in beverage packaging categories, suggesting confidence in formal and material communication over reliance on color-driven shelf impact. The work invites consideration of how packaging design might function simultaneously as protective container, brand communication vehicle, sculptural object, and environmental narrative, suggesting that everyday functional objects can carry aesthetic ambition and conceptual depth when formal intelligence and technical sophistication converge in service of integrated material storytelling.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- This mineral water packaging design features water sourced from Heavenly Lake (Tianchi) in Xinjiang, China, nestled within the glacier-rich Tianshan Mountains. Located in a temperature inversion layer, the lake benefits from stable, mild temperatures due to atmospheric circulation, resulting in uniquely pure and naturally mineral-rich water abundant in beneficial elements like calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, and metasilicic acid.

- Production Technology
- The bottle features a glass body with a frosted plastic cap. Its multifaceted geometric design demanded extreme precision in mold engineering the asymmetrical angles required careful calculation of draft angles to prevent sticking. Ultimately, we implemented a multi-slide mold system to successfully achieve demolding for these complex surfaces.
- Design Challenge
- The design and manufacturing process for mountain-shaped bottle molds requires extremely high precision in blow molding and injection molding techniques. We use customized precision molds, creating multiple 3D-printed prototypes for testing. The mold's runner design and cooling system are repeatedly adjusted to ensure proper plastic flow and stable shaping during the molding process.
- Project Duration
- The project started in Shenzhen in December 2024, was completed in Shenzhen in May 2025, and exhibited in Shenzhen in June 2025.
- Operation Flow
- Adopting a three-dimensional mountain shaped design, the opening logic of the top bottle cap conforms to daily drinking habits. At the same time, the unique grip feel of the triangular bottle body allows users to obtain a different operational perception from conventional water bottles during opening, holding, and drinking, enhancing their memory points during use.
- Research
- Unique packaging helps brands stand out, allowing products to charge higher prices in the market. This approach offers reference for business breakthroughs in niche markets. The reusable bottle design aligns with sustainable development principles, encouraging consumers to recognize the value of packaging recycling and promoting environmental awareness in daily life.
- Inspiration
- For this premium mineral water project using Tianchi Lake's water source, we took inspiration from the Tianshan Mountains' glacial features. The bottle's silhouette mimics the mountain range's profile, with faceted geometric surfaces recreating the peaks' majestic contours. This unconventional design serves as both a direct visual reference to the water's origin and a bold shelf presence that breaks through category conventions.
